Malouf Design
1960s NWT Mink Fur Trim Aqua Brocade Hostess Gown
Sold Out
This 1960s Malouf Design hostess gown still has its tags still attached, showing that it was originally purchased at I. Magnin for $395 USD (over $3,000 USD today.) It was union-made in the U.S.A. from aqua lurex brocade made from a 60% rayon/22% polyester/15% metal/3% nylon blend. It has a bleached mink collar and cuffs, and a chiffon lining. The bodice does up the front with four faux-pearl-and-rhinestone-encrusted buttons. The skirt fastens at the front with a hidden Talon zipper. The French cuffs also have large faux-pearl-and-rhinestone-encrusted buttons. It still has its original belt.
Overall, it's in excellent condition. The buttons on the cuffs have slightly yellowed in a couple of areas and there's some minor grubbiness around the hemline that would likely come out with cleaning. We decided against having this piece cleaned so as not to jeopardize the original tags.
