1980's Car Wash Sleeves Black Velvet Cocktail Dress
Dating from the late 1980’s/early 1990’s, this black velvet cocktail dress from high end French designer Louis Feraud hits above the knee, with long and luscious black chiffon sleeves. The sleeves are designed with one layer of black chiffon enclosed completely down to the pointed French style cuffs, with six strips of black chiffon on each sleeve hanging more loosely, attached at the (slightly padded) shoulder and cuff, reminiscent of the “car wash” effect that had been introduced to the fashion mainstream a few decades prior. The cuffs each enclose with two small black buttons. The neck scoops down a few inches on the front, and a few more on the back, not quite plunging, leading to the back zipper enclosure. This piece is fully lined on the velvet body, with an extra cuff button on the inside.
