De Velasco Tanger

1980s Embellished Green Jersey Caftan

This 1980s caftan was made by De Velasco Tanger, a Moroccan boutique that Elizabeth Taylor was known to be a client of. A few of her De Velasco caftans were auctioned off in the record-breaking 2011 Christie's auction of her wardrobe. The green slinky jersey drapes beautifully, having an interior waist cinch that gives the front shape while allowing the back to remain flowy. The waistband is elaborately embellished with sequins, beads, faux pearls, and jewels. There are a few very light marks on the bust (see the last photo) that are hidden by ruching. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. It has been professionally dry-cleaned and is ready to wear.
