This stylish little homage to 1920's evening wear is from Miyake's Pleats Please line, which has a rich history of its own. Unveiled in 1993, it is innovative and technology-driven, with every item being crafted from a single piece of high quality 100% polyester fabric. Each is originally cut and sewn at 2 to 3 times the intended size, then individually hand-fed into a heat press, which dispenses it with permanent pleats. The line plays with texture and form, at times using zig-zag, vertical, or horizontal pleating, and varying colours and prints seasonally. Despite their experimental process, Pleats Please clothing is all very practical, storing and travelling easily, requiring no ironing, and is machine washable.
