Oscar de la Renta

1960s Museum Held Butterfly Brocade Gown & Bolero Set

This 1960s Oscar de la Renta gown & bolero set is the same set that was featured in a traveling Oscar de la Renta museum exhibit and is currently held in Houston's Museum of Fine Arts. Made from fully lined blue and pink butterfly print metallic silk brocade, the gown features a cut-out back and embellished trim. The fitted bodice and full skirt create a very flattering shape, and the pockets add practicality. The dress zips up the left side and has three hook-and-eyes on the left shoulder, and the bolero does up with one frog knot at the neck. This set has lost its label but the Saks Fifth Avenue label is still attached.

Unfortunately, there was some minor damage to the trim at the dry cleaners: some of the ribbon has lost its metallic finish and there was some beading loss, mainly on the left shoulder. Please see the last few photos. The photos on the mannequin were taken before it was cleaned, therefore don't completely accurately depict the current condition. There is also one small black mark on the back. It remains in very good condition and is an important piece of fashion history.
