1977 A/W Haute Couture Cream Silk Fringe Dress
A 1977 A/W haute couture pure cream silk crepe dress from Marc Bohan for Christian Dior. This piece is built as a finely pleated tank top dress, with an outer long sleeved layer on the top, which opens in a deep v with a thin collar at the neck. The top has balloon sleeves, with cuffs closed with one cream button and one small inner metal snap on each side. Part of the subtle charm of this piece comes with the silk chiffon underskirt, which finishes with cream white fringe, hanging just below the outer pleated skirt. This piece has a side metal zipper enclosure and inside waist belt to sit comfortably on the body.
Bust - 34" (taken from the tank built into the dress)
Waist - 24"
Hips - 36" (taken from the inside chiffon layer)
Shoulders - 15"
Arms - 26" (balloon sleeves)
Length - 42"
Material: 100% silk (hand written label under the tag)
Condition: Excellent condition. The original belt is missing. This dress appears to have only been worn once or twice. There are two minor marks on the back of the dress, both visible in the last picture. The first one is a very light brownish mark on the back shoulder. The second is a tiny black mark on the back skirt, which is practically hidden by pleats. Neither of these marks appear to be from wear, more likely just hitting against something while being transported. I am fairly certain that they would come out with a dry cleaning. I have decided to price the dress a bit lower instead of getting it cleaned myself, as I do not currently have a dry cleaner that I would trust with such a delicate couture piece. The marks are truly very minor and the dress could easily be worn as is. It appears to be very clean otherwise, I suspect that is has been cleaned since its last wear.
