Morgan's

1960s Modernist Print Silk Shift Dress

$120.00

This 1960s shift dress was originally purchased at Morgan's, a Canadian department store that was bought out by The Bay. We can determine from the label that this piece dates to earlier than 1964, which is when the logo's font was changed to match that of The Bay. It likely had a designer tag that was at some point removed. The only other tag reads "reine seide", which is German for "pure silk." Sure enough, it's made from lined very dark navy silk that almost appears black, with a hand-printed baby blue and metallic gold modernist design. It features cap sleeves and does up the back with 13 silk-covered buttons.

This dress presents beautifully and appears to have had very little wear but it does have some flaws from improper storage by a previous owner. There is sun bleaching on the left shoulder, a very discreet 2mm x 3mm hole on the right shoulder and the second button from the top has been squished. The price has been greatly reduced to reflect these imperfections.
