Norbert Niewelt

Couture 1950s Floral Silk Full Skirt Dress Set

Sold Out

A treasure of late 1950’s Montreal couture, this dress/jacket two piece outfit is, outwardly, a vision of well - built raw silk, displaying a multi-coloured flower print. The print could be described as an anticipation of Andy Warhol’s future iconic “Flowers” print. The ruched waistline cinches in full pleats extending down into the full skirt and up into the bust. The jacket is made simply of the raw silk with light lining, with ¾ length sleeves and black button-up enclosure at the front.

The outer raw silk layer is supported by the expert boning on the bodice, with full netting on the skirt, sewn in behind the feather-light material of the lining (with a back metal zipper enclosure). Presumably for modesty’s sake in the case of wind or racy dance moves, the hem of the skirt contains two small weights.
